The founder of legendary rock band The Kinks, and the DJs of Funky Sensation are among the names that have been added to the line-ups at two of the summer’s big jazz festivals.

Ray Davies, founder of The Kinks, and one of the great British songwriters, has been named as the Friday night headliner for Brecon Jazz in August, while Jazz FM’s Funky Sensation team has been confirmed as the Friday night openers at the Love Supreme Festival in July.

With big names such as Chaka Khan and Van Morrison already announced, the organisers of Love Supreme have now added acts including Rebecca Ferguson,  Larry Graham (of Sly and the Family Stone) and his Graham Central Station, Lisa Stansfield and Neneh Cherry to the line-up, as well as the Funky Sensation show.

Love Supreme takes place at Glynde Place, Sussex, on the weekend of July 3-5. If it’s as good as the initial festival in 2013 or last year’s follow-up, we’re in for a treat.

Meanwhile, Ray Davies CBE, one of the most successful songwriters of British rock music, will headline the Market Hall on the Friday night of Brecon Jazz, as the major mainstream artist on this year’s bill. Other headliners already announced are Dr John and Robert Glasper.

You Really Got Me, All Day and All of the Night, Lola, Dedicated Follower of Fashion, Waterloo Sunset, Come Dancing, Apeman, Sunny Afternoon are among the international hits from the songwriter and lead singer of The Kinks who inspired a generation of musicians.

Brecon Jazz director, Pablo Janczur of Orchard said: “We like to put at least one big mainstream name on the bill each year, to appeal to music fans who might not love jazz. Ray Davies is a standout performer, he’s actually worked on his own jazz projects, and will be a real treat in the iconic Market Hall setting.”

Anthony Strong was among the star acts at Brecon in 2013, while Gregory Porter wowed the audience last year.
